2014 marks the 20th Anniversary of owner/designer Rae Lewis-Thornton heart wrenching cover story for Essence Magazine.
Her first person cover story in the December 1994 issue is marked as one of the milestones in the History of HIV/AIDS in the United States. Rae and Essence took a bold an unprecedented stand in the fight against this deadly disease. That cover changed the face of AIDS for many African-American woman. It spoke loud and clear that heterosexual, monogamous women were also at risk for this deadly disease.
That December 1994 cover also declared that Rae Lewis-Thornton was dying and clinically she was. However, God's plan for her life was much bigger than HIV/AIDS and 20 years later she is still educating and challenging stigma around HIV/AIDS! While we celebrate 20 years of activism, Rae Lewis-Thornton has been living with HIV for 31 years and AIDS fro 21.
Rae Lewis-Thornton will design 20 HIV/AIDS Awareness bracelets and 20 HIV/AIDS Awareness necklaces to mark this milestone! Designs will be introduced February 7, 2014- National African-American HIV Awareness Day through December 1, 2014- World AIDS Day.
